The position reports to the Manager, Data and Analytics and works alongside two Data Analysts and a Data Support Analyst.The Data Engineer is a pivotal role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the components of the data ecosystem necessary for the successful extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of source data into the Integrated Data Dashboard (IDD) environment. The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring the availability of accurate, timely, and well-structured data for analytical purposes, ultimately contributing to informed decision-making for the Cross River Rail project. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, data architecture skills, and collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders.The Data and Reporting Services team plays a pivotal role in shaping CRRDA data strategy and analytics capabilities and is responsible for database management, data analytics, Power BI reporting, dashboard development, data governance, and compliance for internal clients. Key Responsibilities:Data Integration Strategy:Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Analysts, technical resources, and project stakeholders to understand the Delivery Authority’s data and reporting requirements.Design effective ETL strategies that align with the IDD data platform's goals.ETL Development:Design, develop, and implement robust ETL processes that efficiently extract data from a range of source systems, transform it to meet the business’ needs, and ingest it into the IDD environment.Data Quality Assurance:Implement data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability as it flows through the pipeline.Data Modelling:Develop and maintain data models that support both the ETL processes and the Delivery Authority’s reporting requirements, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to data standards.Data Transformation:Transform raw source data into a business-oriented view that can be readily consumed by Power BI, ensuring the resulting data structures are optimised for analytical purposes.Technical Expertise:Utilise programming languages (SQL, Python) and ETL tools to design and implement data integration solutions, making use of best practices for performance, scalability, and reproducibility.Demonstrated experience using AZURE SQL Databases, Logic Apps, Data Factories and Synapse Analytics.Automation:Implement automation to schedule, monitor, and manage ETL jobs, minimising manual intervention and ensuring timely data updates.Documentation:Maintain clear documentation of processes, data flows, and data lineage to ensure transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing.Continuous Improvement:Monitor data engineering trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices, to apply these learnings to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes at the Delivery Authority. About You:The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following key competencies:Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.Proven experience (4+ years) in data engineering, ETL development, and data integration.Strong proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and manipulation.Experience in the development of scripting and automation for reporting purposes.Comprehensive understanding of data modelling concepts and best practice.Solid understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their data services.Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making coupled with strong problem-solving skills.Strong attention to detail and data accuracy. Why work with CRRDA?On Cross River Rail you will not only work with the best but become your best.
