The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is building a new 10.2km rail line that includes 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD; with four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street.
Once complete, it will provide trains with a much-needed alternative rail path through the core of the current SEQ Rail network, unlocking a bottleneck and allowing more trains to run more often across the whole of South East Queensland.
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is also delivering multiple supporting projects and activities in conjunction with Department of Transport and Main Road. These include accessibility rebuilds for eight surface stations, construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast; upgrades for stabling yards; track works and surface rail enhancements; and the introduction of a new ETCS digital signalling system.
About the Role
As a Testing and Commissioning Engineer – Rail Systems, you will play a key role supporting the testing, integration and staged systems enablement of Queensland’s next generation rail network as the Cross River Rail program transitions toward commissioning and operations. Working client side within the Lead Integrator environment, this role provides broad exposure across modern rail systems technologies and the practical realities of delivering safe, integrated outcomes across complex interfaces.
This is an opportunity to deepen your rail systems engineering capability in a modern digital signalling environment, including exposure to ETCS and ATO integration, while learning from experienced Australian and international subject matter experts supporting the program. You will work closely with system leads, delivery partners and operational stakeholders to support disciplined delivery, strong technical coordination and readiness outcomes through test phases and staged enablement pathways. This opportunity is offered as a fixed term contract until November 2028 with possible extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support rail systems testing and commissioning and staged systems integration activities
- Coordinate inputs across system leads, technical specialists and delivery partners
- Support the preparation and coordination of test documentation, test plans and packs, readiness criteria and stage gate evidence
- Support readiness preparation and stage gate coordination activities
- Maintain integration, defect, interface and configuration tracking registers
- Monitor progress, risks, issues and dependencies and escalate as required
- Participate in T&C coordination meetings and workshops, capture actions, follow ups and stakeholder engagement
- Contribute to governance reporting and clear status updates
- Support change control, systems engineering and assurance interfaces
- Assist with planning and coordination for test windows and dynamic testing sequencing
About You:
- Degree qualified in engineering or a relevant systems discipline, or equivalent technical experience
- Understanding of and experience supporting rail systems engineering, testing and commissioning, systems integration or related technical coordination
- Strong coordination and engagement skills across technical leads, delivery partners and operational stakeholders in a complex delivery environment
- Proven ability to prepare clear reports, documentation and evidence submissions to support testing phases and governance requirements
- Ability to track and manage actions, risks, and issues to support disciplined delivery
- Self motivated and proactive, with strong attention to detail and strong problem solving abilities
- Exposure to dynamic testing/integration with modern digital signalling including ETCS and ATO highly regarded
