Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class ‘ETCS' signalling system.

About the Role

The Principal Data Analyst as part of our Program Information Team plays a critical role in developing and maintaining business intelligence (BI) analytics and performance reporting capabilities. With a focus on reporting on systems engineering and integration progress you work closely with stakeholder to define business metrics and transform raw data into actionable insights that enable evidence-based decision making and program reporting.

As Principal Data Analyst you will provide technical leadership and technical expertise, ensuring the accuracy of analytics projects, mentoring junior team members and acting as an escalation point for complex data challenges. If you are a highly skilled analyst who thrives on challenge and continuous improvement this is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a project that will change the face of public transportation in Brisbane. Working from our corporate office in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD this position will be offered until 18th December 2026 with possible extension.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership: Strategic planning support for data maturity, automation and continuous improvement.
• BI Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document business requirements and processes, translating into Power BI Solutions (dashboards, reports and data models).
• BI Development: Monitor the effectiveness of BI reporting solutions making recommendations for enhancements and optimisations.
• Data Analysis: Utilise advanced analytical skills to interpret complex datasets, identifying trends and patterns, and communicating findings to stakeholders in a clear, actionable manner.
• Data Integration: Work with data engineers to ensure accurate, consistent data integration from multiple sources, aligning data pipelines with business logic.
• Reporting Design: develop interactive reports and dashboards that meet our guidelines and carry a strong consideration of user experience.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align BI solutions with business objectives and lead discussions on enterprise data analysis solutions.
• Quality Assurance: Implement data validation processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with strategic goals.

About You:

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or related fields is advantageous.
• At least 7+ years in data analysis, BI development, and data visualization. Including experience in a senior data role providing mentorship and managing escalated, complex tasks.
• Proficiency in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, SQL, and ETL.
• Experience with Relational Databases and Database design and version control tools (Git) and processes.
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and gather business requirements for customer-focused solutions.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Experience in working within complex organisational environments or large-scale projects would be highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Azure and Databricks is advantageous but not essential.
