Based from our Plant Yard in Smallfield, Horley, this dual-role position provides relief cover for HGVs and road sweepers while supporting the Plant Yard team with general operations and driving duties, ranging from HGV lorries to transit vans with trailers. The role involves regular travel to various sites across London and the Southeast as required.Key Responsibilities:Driving & OperationsProvide cover as an HGV road sweeper driver during holidays and absences.Support HGV deliveries and small vehicle deliveries as required.Travel between sites across the South East and London as directed.Ensure roadways and gullies are clear of debris, maintaining safe site conditions.Conduct daily and weekly vehicle safety checks and defect reporting.Perform basic maintenance tasks on sweepers (e.g., changing brushes, cleaning vehicles).Load vehicles safely with correct materials, ensuring no cross-contamination.Plan efficient routes to minimise site disruption and delays.Health & SafetyComply with all UK highway laws, site safety policies, and delivery regulations.Maintain safety for vulnerable road users by selecting the safest possible routes.Inspect and manage equipment such as ratchet straps to ensure they are fit for purpose.Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times.Quality & ComplianceAdhere to Drivers’ Hours regulations and ensure accurate tachograph downloads.Complete daily defect reporting and weekly timesheets.Confirm vehicles are fully operational before leaving the yard.Ensure all equipment delivered to sites is accurate, secure, and timely.Represent the company professionally, maintaining positive relationships with site teams.Commercial AwarenessOptimise route planning for cost-effective, efficient deliveries.Reduce unnecessary vehicle idling to support environmental and fuel efficiency goals.This role is varied and hands-on, and the above duties are not exhaustive. The post holder may be required to carry out other reasonable tasks within the scope of the role.Experience/skills required:Essential:Valid Driver CPC qualification.Class 2 driving licence.
