A great leadership opportunity within our Civil Maintenance and Construction team, delivering high-quality capital works projects across the City of Charles Sturt. This appointment is to cover an internal secondment until July 2026
The Role
The Field Leader Construction is responsible for leading a team in the delivery of civil construction projects including drainage, footpaths and road reconstruction works. Leading the team achieve the City Operations objectives of Safety leadership, Operational excellence, Customer experience and People experience.
Key Responsibilities
⢠Provide day-to-day leadership, direction and on-site supervision of a construction work team, ensuring safe, high-quality and timely project delivery.
⢠Support and model a strong safety culture by leading daily risk assessments, identifying hazards, conducting pre-start checks, and ensuring plant and equipment are operated safely and in line with Council procedures.
⢠Interpret civil plans and work orders to guide delivery of capital works projects, including coordination of contractors, suppliers, machinery, and materials.
⢠Undertake hands-on construction activities using plant, equipment and machinery relevant to drainage, footpath and road reconstruction works.
⢠Maintain clear communication with internal teams, contractors, suppliers and community members, providing professional and informed customer service.
⢠Contribute to a collaborative, innovative and high-performing team culture aligned with Council’s values.
Skills & Experience
⢠Experience leading individuals or teams in an operational or civil construction environment, with the ability to motivate and support others.
⢠Demonstrated experience in delivering construction or civil works projects, including interpreting plans and coordinating suppliers and contractors.
⢠Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and provide excellent customer service.
⢠Proficient problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues and develop practical solutions on site.
⢠Sound digital literacy, including the use of Microsoft applications and capacity to learn Council software systems.
⢠Proven experience operating civil construction plant and equipment.
Qualifications
⢠Certificate III in Civil Construction (or equivalent experience) â Essential
⢠MR Truck Licence â Essential
⢠Current Driver’s Licence â Essential
⢠Work-Zone Traffic Management Certificate â Essential
⢠White Card â Essential
⢠Excavator / Backhoe / Skidsteer ticket â Desirable
⢠Ability to read and interpret civil plans â Desirable
About the Detail
This position is classified at ME8, with a fortnightly salary starting at $3,088 plus superannuation.
