Library Assistant


The RoleExpressions of interest are sought for a full time ongoing Library Assistant to assist Teacher Librarians in providing a high quality library service for staff and students at Essendon Moonee Ponds and Keilor East campuses.This is an entry level position working in three library services for students from Prep to Year 10, with a major aspect of the role being extensive circulation work, shelving books and maintaining the physical library collection.The Library Assistant will:Work with staff and students, providing a high quality, welcoming, responsive library service Assist Teacher Librarians in the care of students, such as assisting with group activities and monitoring safe student behaviour in the libraryPerform a range of library tasks, including shelving, processing, stocktaking, preparing display materials, using circulation systems, general photocopying, laminating of materials and related clerical and administrative tasksAnswer basic reference and information inquiriesPrepare teaching aids under the direction of the Teacher LibrarianProvide technical support to staff in relation to the library services and systemsAssist in promoting and publicising library services, new acquisitions and eventsThe PersonThe successful applicant will be a hard worker with a real passion for working with children and children's literature. Working across three library services, you will have a cheerful disposition and the ability to get on well with a variety of people, follow instructions and contribute creatively to the work of the library team. You will also have:relevant library experience and qualificationa strong customer service focus, with the ability to develop positive relationships with students and staffeffective ICT skills, including proficiency with Mac computers and experience with Spydus helpfuleffective interpersonal, written and oral communications skillseffective organisational skillsa sound working knowledge of library equipmentability to build effective work relationships as a member of a small teamPhysical fitness to meet the demands of the rolea commitment to student care and wellbeing, including a commitment to child safety, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgroundsa valid Working With Children Check and be eligible to work in Australia.Hours of workThis is a permanent full time position working Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 4pm.The SchoolPenleigh and Essendon Grammar School has over 2800 students from K-12 at campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon and Keilor East.
