Someone who has a passion for and is experienced in news writing and breaking news, and is interested in writing in the media, advertising, and marketing space. A journalist who is not afraid to dig deep into research and ask the hard questions.The deputy will join a dynamic, fast-moving team, creating market-leading content for the media and marketing industries which span advertising, PR, media owners, social media and more.They will have a leadership role within the team, reporting into the managing editor - news and analysis. The role will focus on creating and editing stories across a range of media including the Mumbrella website, podcasts, events and more with the expectation that the person filling the role will step up and take on the managing editor role when/if the managing editor is unavailable.Through coverage of the industry this role will allow the successful applicant to develop expert insight into the media and marketing industry, becoming a leading source of knowledge for the business and its stakeholders.Key responsibilities:News gathering around the media, marketing, and advertising industry in AustraliaResearching and staying on top of market trends, movements, and issuesWriting and researching news and feature articlesInterviewing senior executives and asking relevant questionsSub-editing stories and curation of the Mumbrella daily newsletterConducting interviews and providing insights into the media and marketing industry for the Mumbrellacast podcastBuilding out Mumbrella’s content offering across multimedia platforms (including but not limited to podcasts, social media, video and face-to-face)Content curation tasks and responsibilities for conferences within assigned area including follow-up tasks surrounding that content on Mumbrella ProContributing to Mumbrella events and awards, including content curation and moderating sessionsAbout you Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role or as a news reporterPrevious knowledge of writing about the media and marketing industry is an advantage but not essentialPrevious experience in a news reporting role or in breaking news is advantageousAbility to work well under pressure and meet deadlinesSuperior attention to detailExcellent interpersonal skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsProven investigative and research skillsMultimedia skills and experience relating to podcast editing is advantageous, not essentialStrong analytical and research skillsCommitment and ability to develop strong industry connections and build contacts for exclusive storiesAbility to help manage and guide a group of reportersWhy work for us?As you embark on your new career with us, we will give you the tools you need to succeed and provide you with training and support to get you up to speed quickly.
