The Senior Work Health and Safety (WHS) Partner works closely with business leaders to embed a proactive safety culture by providing expert guidance, coaching and mentorship to enhance workplace safety and risk management. Reporting into the General Manager Work Health & Safety, this role supports frontline leaders and teams in developing their H&S capability, ensuring compliance with regulations and driving continuous improvement in safety performance.
What Does Success Look Like
- Drive the integration of industry-best HSE practices across our power generation operations to support ATCO’s long-term strategic goals.
- Mentor and coach supervisors and workers, helping them proactively identify, assess, and mitigate health, safety and environmental risks.
- Provide expert insights into complex safety incidents, conducting thorough investigations and root cause analyses to foster continuous improvement.
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and control verification activities to strengthen workplace safety and operational resilience.
- Ensure employees are physically and mentally fit for their duties and provide guidance on managing work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Develop, review and enhance safety management system documents, including standards, health & safety plans, procedures, safe work method statements and work instructions.
Exposure & experience
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline (Diploma/Degree preferred).
- Additional certifications in HSE auditing, risk management, process safety, or incident investigation (e.g., ICAM, Lead Auditor certification) are highly desirable.
Background
- Senior health and safety roles in large-scale, high-risk, or industrial environments.
- Direct exposure to power generation or related sectors is highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leadership and operational teams.
- Expert knowledge of HSE legislation, standards and best practices.
- Skilled in conducting complex incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Fitness-for-work management and injury management expertise.
- Audit and assessment leader in H&S audits and risk assessments.
- Current C-Class Driver’s License.
